Lucy Te Moananui is a sailor, surfer and school teacher from Kaikōura who has decided to go for her dream of entering a solo offshore sailing race. Lucy was born in Leicestershire, England and learnt to sail as a teenager on an inland flooded quarry, racing Lasers. She moved to New Zealand 16 years ago and put sailing on hold while she concentrated on surfing. New to surfing at 23, Lucy went on to win two national titles in her age group short boarding and representing New Zealand on the world stage, surfing her sup for two consecutive years, contributing to Team New Zealand’s Bronze Medal in 2017. In 2018, Lucy turned her attention back to sailing, with a goal to fulfil a lifelong dream of entering a solo offshore sailing race.
