In 1993 a group of hunters founded The Fiordland Wapiti Foundation, initially as a deer management program. Since then, the Foundation has become guardians of one of Aotearoa's treasures – Fiordland National Park, one of the world’s most prestigious wilderness areas and part of Te Wāhipounamu - South West New Zealand World Heritage Area.
Formed to address the potential threat to flora and fauna of the Fiordland National Park caused by Wapiti deer, an introduced species, while maintaining a quality herd for future trophy hunting opportunities. Funded by Recreational Wapiti hunters out of their own pockets, it has been the most successful deer management program in New Zealand. This is a win- win for both conservation and recreation, and since 2005 it has accounted for over 18,000 unwanted deer to date.
Out of that deer management the Fiordland Wapiti Foundation has grown a responsibility for Fiordland, a responsibility not only for the Wapiti deer but also for Fiordland and its environment. Back Country Cuisine is proud to support the Fiordland Wapiti Foundation's conservation efforts with a portion of sales revenue from our website and the collection of donations for the charity.

The Hunters Club’s aim is to put in the hard yards, reaching areas deep within NZ's mountainous back country, showcasing the natural beauty of these locations, and to really earn the right to take a shot.
For The Hunters Club, it's all about being physically fit, digging deep to reap the rewards, and doing it all in a way that's respectful to the animals being hunted. Back Country Cuisine is proud to provide The Hunters Club the fuel to make it happen.
With a belief that no TV shows were capturing the true magnificence that New Zealand’s mountains and game animals had to offer, nor the real essence of wilderness hunting in New Zealand, NZ Hunter Adventures set about changing it.
They climb and explored New Zealand’s mountains and wetlands to capture never before seen footage of a wide range of game animals in some truly incredible places all fuelled by Back Country Cuisine.
The Te Aaroa trail has become so popular that Back Country Cuisine has switched from helping individual walkers to becoming a silver sponsor of the trail.
This is so our support can benefit all Te Araroa trail walkers regardless of if they’re tackling it section by section or thru-hiking the whole trail.
The Great Hikes App is the only mobile app designed for the 10 NZ Great Walks. The team have mapped, photographed and recorded features about each track and presented it free in a mobile friendly format. It is rich in content, free and can be downloaded from the app stores.
Each track on the app also has fly-thru videos, elevation profile, a trip blog and links to Department of Conservation’s facility booking system, safety pages and their current fees. This is the mush-have app for the NZ Great Walks.
